Round Table Conference In Pune Highlights Early Childhood Development
On Wednesday, the Gravittus Foundation and UNICEF hosted a round table conference to emphasize the critical importance of early childhood development. The focus was on the first 1,000 days from birth, a crucial period for brain growth. Sanjay Singh, Chief of UNICEF’s Maharashtra office, discussed the rapid pace of brain development during this time. He highlighted that 80% of brain development occurs while the child is still in the womb. Singh also noted that adolescence is another critical phase of accelerated physical, emotional, and social development, requiring tailored guidance.
Dr. Simin Irani, a pediatrician and neonatologist, stressed the importance of a nurturing and stimulating environment from birth. Her insights reinforced the need for early and consistent support for optimal child development.
The conference saw the participation of several notable figures. Actresses Shabana Azami and Tanisha Mukherjee attended the event, alongside Suraj Mandhare, Commissioner of Education. Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni also joined the discussion. Medical experts present included Dr. Amita Phadnis, Dr. Pramod Jog, and Usha Kakade, founder of the Gravittus Foundation.
The event served as a platform to delve into the importance of early childhood development and the steps needed to ensure a supportive environment for children during these formative years.
