Pune : Maharashtra State Election Commission receives 12 lakh application forms before Dec 9 deadline

Pune: The Maharashtra State Election Commission has received over 12 lakh applications which includes new voter registration and the deletion of name and change in address applications ahead of the December 9 deadline.

As per the information, voters are advised by election officials to verify their names on the electoral list and request any necessary corrections so that the accurate names appear in the final voter list which is scheduled for publication on January 5. Out of the 12 lakh applications, the districts of Pune and Nagpur have received the highest number of applications, one lakh each. More applications are anticipated by the election commission in the next three days i.e. December 9 which is the deadline for application submission.

A senior election commission officer said that applications can be filed online or offline. He has instructed the collectors to make sure the electoral registration officers have approved each application by December 26.

One lakh booth-level officers must be assigned by all electoral registration officers for field verification. In a recent meeting, the Election Commission of India gave state officials instructions to make sure that all applications are approved by booth-level officers before the electoral roll is published on January 5.
