Pune: In a shocking incident in Kothrud, Pune, a man’s refusal to join a liquor party—due to his wife’s disapproval—led his enraged friends to set multiple motorcycles on fire. The incident occurred in Raut Wadi, Hanuman Nagar, and police have arrested two accused in connection with the crime.
Incident Details
According to police reports, Shibukumar Thakur and the accused were acquaintances, all working as laborers from other states. On the day of Dhulivandan (Holika Dahan), the accused invited Shibukumar to drink alcohol. However, he refused, stating that his wife did not allow him to drink. The accused tried to convince him, but when Shibukumar resisted and locked himself inside his house, they became furious.
After waiting for some time and realizing that Shibukumar would not come out, the enraged men set his parked motorcycle on fire. The flames spread, burning 2–4 other motorcycles in the parking area. As soon as the fire broke out, the accused fled the scene.
Police Action
The incident occurred late at night, and residents rushed to help upon seeing the fire. However, by the time they arrived, the accused had already escaped. A case was registered at Kothrud police station based on Shibukumar Thakur’s complaint.
The police have arrested two individuals—Kanhaiya Thakur (28), a carpenter, and Hiralal Sharma (24), also a carpenter—in connection with the crime. Investigations are ongoing.
