Mangalwar Peth, Budhwar Peth, Ideal Colony, Civil Court, Shivajinagar, and Bhosari are among the six metro stations that Pune Metro has announced plans to rename after the state government released guidelines permitting the metro railway administration to do so.

A committee will be formed by Pune Metro to rename the stations in compliance with the new regulations.

After the first phase of the Pune Metro opened in March 2022, several passenger organizations demanded that the station names be changed. They suggested renaming Bhosari station to Nashik Phata, since that is where the metro halts. This sparked the beginning of the demands to rename the metro stations. Bhosari, according to commuters, is five kilometers from Nashik Phata, which is located on the Pune–Mumbai highway. The names of the metro stations in Shivajinagar, Ideal Colony, Mangalwar Peth, and Civil Court were subsequently demanded to be changed.

Senior Pune Metro officials stated that since the proposal for renaming metro stations was outside of their purview, they had forwarded it to the central and state governments in response to public demand. The Pune Metro administration now has the authority to rename or alter the names of metro stations, thanks to a delegation from the state government. For this reason, they have decided to rename the metro stations.

The senior official went on to say that, in accordance with the applications received, they have chosen to rename the stations in Shivajinagar, Bhosari, Ideal Colony, Mangalwar Peth, and Budhwar Peth. To make the ultimate decision, though, they will need to form a committee. Within a week, a committee will be formed. The municipal commissioners of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and other places will be included.
