Pratiksha Mate and Pooja Kale, pioneers steering the inaugural Pune Metro journey.

In a groundbreaking event during the inauguration of the Pune Metro, Pratiksha Mate and Pooja Kale made history by taking charge of the steering. Pooja navigated the route from Ruby Hall Clinic, while Pratiksha led the way from Ramwadi, showcasing their prowess as capable drivers.

Expressing her exhilaration, Pratiksha Mate, hailing from Godhani, Nagpur, and an electrical engineering graduate, joyfully embraced her role as a train pilot in the Pune Metro. “Having previously operated the Metro from Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic, today, I was entrusted with steering from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi. It was a delightful and unique experience,” she shared.

Coming from Nagpur, Pratiksha joined the Metro after completing her engineering studies, highlighting the fulfilling nature of today’s journey.

Pooja Kale, also from Nagpur and holding a degree in Electronics Engineering, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Today’s journey was truly remarkable. There was immense excitement surrounding the opening day. We are thrilled that passengers have shown such appreciation. This route sees a diverse crowd, including seniors and women, all eager for communication.”

This historic moment not only celebrates the achievements of these skilled women but also signifies significant strides in breaking gender stereotypes within the metro transportation domain. As passengers applaud their efforts, Pratiksha and Pooja emerge as inspirational figures in the quest for gender inclusivity and excellence within the Pune Metro.
