Pune: MIST LGBTQ Foundation Marks Indian Coming Out Day with Balloon Release
Pune, July 2, 2025 – To commemorate Indian Coming Out Day, MIST LGBTQ Foundation organized a symbolic and emotional celebration at Kalakar Katta on FC Road on Wednesday evening. The event, which began at 6:30 PM, featured a balloon release ceremony followed by an open sharing session over coffee and snacks.
Indian Coming Out Day, observed annually since 2010, marks the anniversary of the historic decriminalization of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. The day serves as a moment of visibility, solidarity, and empowerment for LGBTQIA+ individuals embracing their identity and journey.
The event commenced with a balloon release, symbolizing freedom, pride, and hope. Attendees later gathered in an informal circle to share personal coming out stories in a safe and inclusive environment.
“Celebrating these days shows us how far we’ve come and how much we’ve struggled to carve out space for ourselves,” said Tejas (He/She/They), a representative from MIST LGBTQ Foundation. “We come together, share our hardships, uplift one another, and continue to dream of and build safer spaces for all queer individuals.”
The initiative reflects the foundation’s ongoing efforts to amplify queer voices, promote inclusivity, and create affirming community spaces across the city and beyond.
