The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a show-cause notice to Pune-based IT firm Cybage Software for violating environmental regulations during the construction of its new building in Vadgaon Sheri. The notice, dated October 11, requires the company to respond within seven days under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

Residents of the nearby Kumar Krutika Building and surrounding areas had filed complaints about air and noise pollution caused by the construction activities. MPCB’s notice highlights that Cybage engaged in blasting activities without a valid or renewed ‘No Objection Certificate’ under the Explosive Rules, 2008.

The board also accused the company of conducting excavation, drilling, and blasting without taking adequate precautions to control air and noise pollution. Additionally, MPCB pointed out that the company failed to install a compound wall or wind-breaking wall around the project’s perimeter and did not provide barricades near the complainant’s building.

Further, the company was accused of discharging water generated during excavation into an adjacent nullah, potentially causing a nuisance to the surrounding areas. Following an inspection by the sub-regional officer, a report was filed, prompting MPCB to propose legal action.

If Cybage fails to respond to the notice or comply with the conditions, MPCB has warned that legal action will be taken against the company. The firm’s construction activities have sparked concerns among local residents, leading to this official intervention.
