Pune, July 11, 2024:** On Thursday (July 11), Senior Technician Shanta Shelke, who bravely captured a leopard that had entered the meter testing room at MSEDCL’s Chandoli (Tal. Rajgurunagar) office, was felicitated by Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar at the Rasta Peth office. “The courage and presence of mind shown by Senior Technician Shanta Shelke is commendable,” praised Pawar.

Here’s what happened:

MSEDCL’s Rajgurunagar subdivision office, two branch offices, meter testing room, and storage room are all located in the same area at Chandoli (Tal. Rajgurunagar). On Wednesday (July 10), Senior Technician Shanta Shelke was preparing a meter testing report in the meter testing room. At 10:45 AM, a leopard entered the room through the door, but Shelke, who was engrossed in her work, did not notice it. At the same moment, she vaguely heard a colleague outside shout, “Tiger!” Seconds later, she heard a noise from the meter box next to her table. When she looked, she saw the leopard. Displaying immense courage and presence of mind, Shelke quietly reached for the door and closed it from the outside. The police and forest department officials were then called, who tranquilized and captured the leopard.

Shelke shared, “The leopard entered the room through the door right in front of the table where I was sitting. Absorbed in my work, I didn’t notice it. It passed just a foot away from me on the left side of the table. Fortunately, it didn’t attack me. I heard a faint shout of ‘Tiger’ from outside. Immediately, I heard the noise from the meter box next to the table, and when I looked, I saw the leopard. For a moment, I was at a loss. But without panicking, I swiftly reached the door and locked the leopard inside the meter testing room.”

For her brave act, Senior Technician Shanta Shelke was felicitated by Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar at the Rasta Peth office. Assistant General Manager (Human Resources) Dnyanda Nilekar, Executive Engineer Dhanraj Bikkad, Deputy Chief Industrial Relations Officer Shirish Katkar, and Systems Analyst Balakrishna Patil were also present on the occasion.
