Pune : MSEDCL proposes hike in power tariff
Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has proposed a tariff hike of up to 14 % for 2023-24 and 11% for 2024-25.
According to MSEDCL, they have proposed a tariff hike to Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) which is for residential consumers from 1 April.
MSEDCL Managing Director Vijay Singhal said,“This is our proposal, further MERC will look out all the issues and finally they have to look it how much rise there will be.’’
Speaking further about the proposed tariff hike Singhal told, moreover there has been some rise because of issues like coal import, as coal production has gone down.It is mandatory to supply electricity to people even by importing coal which increases our production cost. Second thing, during Covid time industrial and commercial activities were stopped which affected our revenue. Hence we stand by our proposal to increase tariff by 12-15 % hike.
However, the common people are not happy with this tariff hike by the power utility. Vivek Welankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch said,“ We are against this hike and we have requested people to send their objections to MERC by 15 February. To create awareness against this power tariff hike, we have organised a session on the next Sunday so that common man can understand this issue in detail and will get 10 more days to file his objection on proposal filed by MSEDCL, added Welankar.
