Pune, June 1, 2023 : The iconic Deccan Queen aka Dakkhan Ki Rani, the first deluxe train of the Indian Railways, completed 93 glorious years of operations between Pune and Mumbai on Thursday.

The birthday event was successfully organized with the echoing sounds of tutari (trumpet). Pune’s Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, Harsha Shah, President, Railway Pravasi Group, Advocate Rajendra Sanghvi, Advocate Ashutosh Ranade, Pune Railway PRO and many more notable personalities were present.

Giving more insights about the iconic train and the event, Harsha Shah, President, Railway Pravasi Group said, “Celebrating the train’s illustrious journey, a  94 kg cake was specially made and cut by Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil. Great Indian Peninsula Railway had started this iconic Deccan Queen on June 1, 1930. It was India’s first superfast and luxury service train. It is the only train for which passengers are given a season pass for this 193 km distance train. No other train in India issues a season pass for trains traveling beyond the distance of 150 km. The train has seen a lot of ups and downs throughout its illustrious history, commuting 1500-2000 passengers daily. Still, it is standing strong for the service of passengers. So, even today, the first preference of commuters from Mumbai to Pune and vice versa is Deccan Queen train.”

“As a train lover, I have been celebrating the birthday of Deccan Queen since I was five years old. It gives me immense pleasure to see the progress of the train year by year. My best wishes for the train to continue its run for a long, long time.” She further added.

The Deccan Queen train has entered its 94th year and let’s hope that it will continue to run for a long time.
It is also famous for its pantry car which serves lip smacking bread cutlet, sabudana vada, coffee, omlet, etc.
