Pune-Mumbai Weather Alert: Rain with Thunderstorms Likely in 25 Maharashtra Districts, Yellow and Orange Alerts Issued
Thunderstorms with Gusty Winds Likely Across Multiple Maharashtra Districts: IMD Issues Alert
Maharashtra Weather Update: Mumbai and Pune are expected to witness cloudy skies and intermittent showers over the next few days, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues yellow and orange alerts for 25 districts across Maharashtra. The weather department has predicted thunderstorm activity, gusty winds, and light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the state.
Mumbai: High Humidity and Overcast Skies Continue
Residents of Mumbai have been grappling with uncomfortable humidity and persistent overcast conditions for the past three days. While there has been little rainfall, the city has remained under a yellow alert due to the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds. On Friday, the maximum temperatures recorded were 34.4°C in Santacruz and 34.2°C in Colaba, with humidity levels hovering between 68-70%. The IMD attributes this to a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea, which has increased cloud formation but not significant precipitation.
Scattered light showers are likely in Mumbai from next week, although no significant drop in temperatures is expected.
Pune: Cloudy Mornings, Rainy Afternoons
Pune is also expected to see a shift in weather patterns. On May 17, the city will have a minimum temperature of around 23°C and a maximum of 35°C. Cloudy conditions will persist throughout the day, with rain showers anticipated in the afternoon. Gusty winds are also expected to sweep through the city during the daytime.
District-Wide Rainfall Alerts Across Maharashtra
The IMD has issued yellow alerts for the following districts due to the likelihood of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds:
- Konkan: Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg (excluding Mumbai on some days)
- Madhya Maharashtra: Pune, Nashik, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Ahmednagar (Ahilyanagar), Dhule, Nandurbar
- Marathwada: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Parbhani, Dharashiv
- Vidarbha: Akola, Buldhana, Amravati, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Washim
Additionally, an orange alert—indicating a higher risk of intense weather—has been issued for Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Wardha districts. These areas may witness severe thunderstorms, strong winds (40-50 km/h), and heavy rainfall.
