Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale has raised concerns about excessive water consumption in Pune. This comes amidst disputes between the Water Resources Department and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over water allocation. Traditionally, PMC focused on ensuring ample water for residents, but Bhosale’s remarks mark a shift, highlighting unsustainable water use.

Bhosale notes the recommended daily water consumption per person is 150 liters, yet Pune residents use an average of 270 liters.
He asserts this excessive use needs addressing. This poses challenges for water management, especially considering Pune’s growing population. Despite similar schemes introduced by the PMC, villages like Mhalunge face water challenges.

Here, tankers deliver water every four days, insufficient for the growing population. PMC plans to increase tanker numbers to meet demand. However, the lack of proper water channels in villages like Mhalunge remains a hurdle. Bhosale emphasizes long-term planning for water supply, crucial given Pune’s growth. The current situation develops the need for sustainable water management practices to serve urban and rural communities effectively.
