A fire broke out in a two-storey wada near Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati in Pune’s Budhwar Peth on Tuesday afternoon. The fire brigade swiftly responded to the emergency, dispatching three fire tenders and three water tankers to the scene after receiving reports of the blaze at 1:55 pm.

The old wada, known for housing materials used in making trophies, became engulfed in flames, though the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of around 10 officers and 40 jawans from the fire brigade helped bring the fire under control, preventing its spread to neighbouring areas. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the incident.

“The fire broke out in the wada around 1:55 pm. We immediately dispatched three fire tenders and three water tankers to the spot. Our team worked efficiently to douse the flames and prevent any casualties,” said a spokesperson from the fire brigade.

The historic Wada, nestled near the revered Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati, has long been a landmark in Budhwar Peth, carrying a legacy of the city’s heritage.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire as efforts continue to assess the extent of the damage inflicted upon the iconic structure.
