Pune Municipal Corporation Civic to conduct survey of Ganapati pandals

The civic administration has opted to carry out an inspection of all pandals being set up for Ganeshotsav to ensure that the organizers are adhering to the regulations under which they received their permissions. Since 2022, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has removed the requirement for annual applications for pandal permissions and has begun granting approvals for a five-year period.
“A senior civic official stated, ‘The survey will be conducted throughout the civic areas, with a particular focus on pandals located near hospitals and schools. The inspection is set to begin at the end of this month.’ As per the PMC pandal policy, the height of the pandal must not exceed 40 feet.”
If any organizer intends to set up a pandal taller than 40 feet, they must submit an application along with a structural stability certificate from an authorized civil engineer. “The ward offices have been directed to form teams to visit locations within their jurisdiction and inspect the mandals. They will compile a report based on their findings and submit it to the anti-encroachment department for further action,” stated Somnath Bankar, head of PMC’s anti-encroachment department.
In 2023, a total of 3,700 mandals registered for Ganeshotsav, with many of them digging up roads to place advertisements, despite PMC’s restrictions on roadside ads.
