Pune Municipal Corporation Cracks Down On Construction Sites Over Dust Pollution
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended 91 construction sites for failing to implement measures to prevent dust pollution. The decision comes after the city witnessed a significant increase in PM 2.5 dust levels, posing a threat to citizens’ health.
The PMC had issued notices to construction sites last year, ordering them to take immediate measures to reduce dust pollution. However, despite the warnings, many sites failed to comply, prompting the corporation to take strict action.
Prashant Waghmare, City Engineer, Municipal Corporation, stated that the corporation has ordered construction organizations to take measures to reduce dust pollution. However, many sites have ignored the instructions, leading to the suspension of 91 sites.
The PMC has issued show cause notices to 67 construction sites in Zone 5, ordering them to take measures within seven days. The corporation has also identified the number of constructions notified zone-wise:
– Zone 1: 36 construction sites in Lohgaon, Hadapsar, Keshannagar, and Pisoli
– Zone 2: 15 construction sites in Katraj, Yevlewadi, Dhankawadi, Ambegaon, Sinhagad Road, and Nanhe-Dhairi
– Zone 3: 4 construction sites in Sangamwadi, Kalas, Vimannagar, Pune Station, and parts of Vadgaonsheri
– Zone 4: 16 construction sites in Kalyaninagar, Vimannagar Yerawada, and parts of Vadgaonsheri
– Zone 6: 20 construction sites in Aundh, Kothrud, Baner, Balewadi, and Warje
The PMC’s crackdown on construction sites is a welcome move, but citizens are still suffering from dust pollution. The corporation must ensure that construction organizations comply with the instructions and take measures to reduce dust pollution.
