Pune Municipal Corporation Imposes Fine On Contractor For Negligence In Road Work
In a significant move aimed at improving road infrastructure in the city, the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation has levied a hefty fine of ₹1 lakh on contractors who fail to ensure proper upkeep of roads. This decision comes after repeated instances of substandard road construction resulting in inconvenience to commuters. Pune Pulse had highlighted the issue on its social media platform where the cement was being poured onto the pothole even when it was raining.
The directive specifically targets contractors who neglect to use concrete mix in gravel beds, causing roads to deteriorate quickly. Such negligence often leads to waterlogging during the monsoon, exacerbating traffic woes and posing safety risks.
Recently, the municipal authorities undertook a water supply project in the city. Following its completion, contractors were tasked with laying gravel beds topped with concrete. This initiative aims to enhance road durability, particularly at crucial intersections such as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk.
The municipal corporation has taken a firm stance on maintaining quality standards in public infrastructure projects. Earlier, a similar fine was imposed on contractors for inadequate water management, highlighting the authorities’ commitment to improving civic amenities.
Local residents have expressed relief over the municipality’s proactive measures, hoping they will lead to smoother and safer commuting experiences. As the city continues to grow, such initiatives are crucial in ensuring sustainable development and enhancing overall quality of life for its residents.
The corporation urges contractors to adhere strictly to prescribed guidelines to avoid penalties and contribute positively to urban infrastructure projects. This move is expected to set a precedent for stricter enforcement of construction standards across Maharashtra’s urban areas.
