Pune, January 31, 2025 – In a bid to meet its annual budget goals, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set a target of collecting ₹10 crore in property tax daily. So far, the department has collected ₹2,000 crore, but with just two months left in the financial year, it still needs to recover ₹800 crore to reach its goal.

Aggressive Recovery Measures

During a recent meeting of senior officials and tax inspectors, Deputy Commissioner Madhav Jagtap issued strict instructions for intensified property tax collection. To meet the ₹2,800 crore target set for 2024-25, PMC plans to conduct daily auctions and seizures of properties with outstanding dues. However, a state government stay on tax collection from newly merged villages has made achieving the target more challenging.

Employee Deployments & Canceled Leaves

To speed up collections, PMC has deployed 75 additional employees from other departments into the tax division, canceling all staff leave until the financial year ends. The administration has assured that seizures and auctions of defaulters’ properties will continue over the next few weeks.
