Pune Weather Update: City to Experience Temperature Drop as February Heat Wave Ends
Pune, January 31, 2025 – Pune has set a new record for the highest January temperature ever recorded. On Wednesday, Shivajinagar registered a scorching 35.9°C, making it the warmest January day in the city’s history. This follows a trend of rising maximum temperatures in both December and January, surpassing seasonal averages.

While Pune did experience brief spells of cold weather this winter, fluctuations in temperature have been frequent. Historically, January’s maximum temperature has ranged between 30°C to 34°C, with 34.4°C recorded in 2016 and over 35°C in January 2009. However, Wednesday’s reading of 35.9°C has now surpassed all previous records.

Why is Pune Getting Warmer?
According to IMD, the rising temperatures are due to a disruption in cold winds from the north and the influence of an anti-cyclonic system. As a result, Pune has experienced above-average maximum temperatures, leading to an unusually warm January.
This temperature spike has forced residents to endure unexpected heat during what is typically a cooler month. Experts warn that such fluctuations could become more common due to climate change and shifting weather patterns.
When Pune is witnessing 35°C in the month of January a common citizen has to wait under a tree shade as our Bus stops don't have one. And our @pmc wants to cut thousands of trees for a so-called mindless development. Where are we heading? @PMCPune Location – Balewadi gaon pic.twitter.com/Lmx5IAJMgM
