In Pune, a clash ensued on NIBM Road during the intervening night of April 15 and 16, resulting from a car rear-ending a motorcycle. The Kondhwa police have charged at least 10 individuals, all identified as local residents engaged in small-time jobs, with affray, rioting, and mischief.

Assistant Inspector Lekhaji Shinde of the Kondhwa police stated that amidst the altercation, some of the involved men seized an assistant police inspector’s high-end cellphone and damaged it by striking it on the road when attempts were made to intervene and control the situation.

The incident originated with a verbal dispute between the car driver, accompanied by a mechanic, and the motorcyclist. Subsequently, the motorcyclist summoned his friends, resulting in an altercation where the car occupants were assaulted. In retaliation, the car occupants called their associates to the scene, leading to further violence against the motorcyclist and his companions.

Assistant Inspector Mohsin Pathan and his team, who were conducting night patrol, arrived at the scene and urged the residents to cease their disruptive behaviour. However, the situation escalated as the residents persisted in their altercation.

The police took custody of the 10 individuals involved and brought them to the police station. Additionally, preventive action under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was taken against them.

Further investigation is underway, and notices have been issued to residents, urging cooperation with the police inquiry. Shinde mentioned that a complaint has been filed against 10 residents and additional individuals whose identities will be determined during the investigation.
