Pune, September 27, 2024: Sarang Athvale(Falcons,3250pts), Aarushi Pande(Kara’s Cardinals, 3250pts), Anish Rane(Phoenix on the rise,3250pts), Tejas Kinjawadekar(Imperial Swans, 3050pts) emerged the most expensive players amongst 198 players in various age groups who will represent ten teams at the tenth edition of ‘PYC – TRUSPACE’ badminton league tournament to be organized by PYC Hindu Gymkhana and played at Club Badminton Courts from 26th September to 2nd October 2024.
Kumar Tamhane, President of PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Mr. Deepak Gadgil, Hon Secretary of the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Mr. Ashwin Trimal of Truspace informed that, the event attracted 198 participants in various age categories i.e. Nominated players, Women, Wisemen and Open category. It will be the tenth year in a row that Ashwin Trimal of TRUSPACE will be the exclusive sponsor for the tournament added Mr. Tamhane.
“We are thrilled to support this event and happy to provide a platform for players to show their skills ” added Mr. Trimal a keen sportsperson himself.
A player can play only 1 match in a tie. Each tie will be the best of 7 matches. All matches will be played in the best of three match format with the decider game to be played only in case of a tie in the first two games.
The event will be played in league cum knock out basis. The top 2 teams from each Group will qualify for the Senior Finals, with the Winners of both the Semi Finals competing in the Finals. The winning team will receive a Trophy, informed Mr. Tanmay Agashe, Badminton secretary of PYC Hindu Gymkhana.
Mr. Nandan Dongre, will be the Tournament Director of PBL.
The highlights of this year’s event is Maximum members participation and a format where everyone gets to play. We have ensured more women and children participation this year. Every team will get 3 bonus points for 100% participation incentive.
The 10 teams will be divided in 2 Pools, A and B with 5 teams in each pool, All teams will play each other at the league stage. There will be 5 Open Doubles matches, 1 Womens Doubles match and 1 Wisemen Doubles match in a Tie.
The participants who are all club members were selected in 10 teams through an auction process. The teams, also owned by PYC members, are as follows.
Black Hawks, Badamikar Buzzards, Eagles, Optima Falcons, Imperial Swans, Kaps Ravens, Kara’s Cardinals, Phoenix – The Rise, Ravetkar Comets and Seinumero-Jalan Goshawks.
Apart from that, this a competition also will be held for Kids aged below 14. A total of 54 Kids will be drafted into 4 teams – Finch, Gulls, Jays, Robins, which will be seen in action at the PYC TRUSPACE Kids badminton league tournament.
A special Tournament Committee comprising Tanmay Agashe,Sarang Lagu, Abhishek Tamhane, Nandan Dongre, Vivek Saraf, Ranjit Pande, Kedar Nadgonde, Sameer Jalan and Deepti Sardesai has been formed to ensure smooth conduct of the event, Mr. Tamhane added.
