Pune News: Blame Game Delays Nala Wall Construction Work, Posing Risk to Commuters in Mohammadwadi
Two months ago, heavy rains on July 25-26 caused the collapse of a wall along a nala (drain) near Marvel Sangria in Mohammadwadi. This collapse has created a dangerous situation for pedestrians and commuters. Despite complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), no action has been taken to fix the issue.
The road next to the collapsed wall has become a critical route after another key road from Dorabjee Paradise Bungalows to Lavanya Hotel was closed due to high-tension power lines touching a nearby bridge. With this bridge closed for the last two months, the nala road is now the only available option for people traveling to Undri and Mohammadwadi.
When local media Pune Pulse contacted the drainage department, they said the road department was informed about the need for repair work back in August 2024. However, as of September 27, there has been no progress, and both departments seem confused about who is responsible for completing the work.
Previously, it took 1.5 years for the PMC to complete a concrete road along the nala, thanks to efforts by local groups like Pune Pulse and the NIBM Undri Road Residents Forum. Now, with ongoing heavy rains, there is a serious risk that the road could collapse completely if the nala wall isn’t rebuilt soon.
