Alongside arming the Damini Squad officers, the number of ‘Damini Squads’ comprising women police patrolling the city has been increased following a brutal attack on a college girl in Sadashiv Peth.

Given the surge in crime incidents, the Damini squads, as well as the crime branch and the police personnel in the detection branch of police stations, have commenced training in pistol handling.

In addition to providing pistols, Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Sandeep Karnik have directed immediate action against crimes involving vehicle vandalism, intimidation, molestation of women, and similar offenses. A list of known criminals in the city has been compiled, and instructions have been issued to take preventive measures against them.

The decision to equip Damini squads with pistols aims to bolster the efforts in ensuring the safety and security of women in Pune. By empowering these specialized teams and implementing additional preventive measures, law enforcement authorities are striving to create a safer environment for women in the city.
