Pune, July 12 : Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh conducted an inspection of the ongoing road and flyover works being carried out by the National Highway Authority at NDA Chowk (Chandni Chowk). During the visit, he directed officials to prioritize the completion of the flyover and road work at Chandni Chowk.

Present on the occasion were National Highway Authority of India Project Director Sanjay Kadam, Project Manager Srinivas, Project Coordinator Kishore Bharekar, NHAI Consultant Engineer Bharat Todkari, and Security Officer Kundan Kunal.

Accompanied by officials from the National Highway Authority, Collector Dr. Deshmukh assessed the progress of the new VOP (Vehicle Overpass) and other ongoing work at Chandni Chowk.

Expressing the significance of Chandni Chowk in terms of traffic flow in Pune, Dr. Deshmukh stated, “Chandni Chowk serves as a vital intersection connecting five different routes. A major portion of the project work was completed in the previous year. However, challenges such as land acquisition delays, relocation of utility channels, legal cases, and local encroachments have hindered progress. The girder installation is currently underway. I emphasize that the flyover is scheduled for inauguration next month, and all necessary works should be completed accordingly.”

Significant progress has been made in the VOP construction, with beam and column work successfully completed. Out of a total of 32 girders (ranging in length from 22 to 35 meters) on both sides of the service road, 25 girders have been installed. Additionally, 5 out of 9 girders (with a length of 57.5 meters) on the main road have been completed, with the remaining work in progress. The slab construction for four spans of the service road has been finalized, while similar works are currently underway on the main road.

Project Director Kadam stated that 95% of the Chandni Chowk project has been completed, and the authorities are targeting the finalization of all works by July or August 2023.

The inspection conducted by Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh underscores the commitment to timely completion of the road and flyover works at Chandni Chowk. Once finished, these infrastructural developments are expected to improve traffic flow and provide enhanced convenience for commuters in the area.
