The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on a new road project aimed at reducing the distance and travel time between Charholi and Wagholi, ensuring smoother traffic flow.

Vijay Kulkarni, PMC Chief Engineer (Road), spoke to Pune Pulse and stated, “Currently, there are three routes connecting the two locations, with distances ranging from 16.5 km to 27 km. This results in increased travel time and substantial commuting expenses for the residents. Therefore, with the implementation of the new road, the distance between Charholi and Wagholi will be reduced to just 5.7 km, significantly improving traffic flow.”

According to Vijay Kulkarni, the road department has granted the necessary work permits, and the construction will commence shortly. A contractor company has been awarded work orders for the eight phases of the road development project. The construction will be carried out through a public-private partnership (PPP) over a span of two years.

In addition to connecting Charholi and Wagholi, the new road will enhance connectivity to Alandi, Dehu, Bhosari, Nigdi, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Chakan.

This road will link Charholi, situated within the city limits of Pimpri-Chinchwad, to Wagholi on the Pune-Ahmednagar road. It will improve accessibility to the PMRDA ring road, Vadgaon Shinde, and Lohegaon towns.

The Pune Municipal Corporation is responsible for the construction of this road, which will offer a direct route for vehicles traveling from Ahmednagar Road to Pimpri-Chinchwad or Mumbai via Yerwada, bypassing Pune.

Moreover, it will contribute to the improved connectivity promised by the proposed Ring Road by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The new road will alleviate traffic congestion at Pune’s Kharadi bypass chowk, Yerwada, Vishrantwadi, Khadki, and Bopodi, as well as at Dapodi, Dighi, and Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

With the initiation of this road project, the PMC aims to enhance commuting convenience, reduce travel distances, and promote efficient traffic flow between Charholi and Wagholi, benefiting both residents and commuters in the region.
