Pune News: Death Penalty Or Life Imprisonment? Court To Decide Sentence In Nasrapur Case Today
Pune, June 29, 2026: The Special Court is set to pronounce the sentence today in the shocking Nasrapur child rape and murder case, in which accused Bhimrao Prabhakar Kamble has already been convicted for the rape and brutal murder of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl. The court will decide whether the convict will be awarded the death penalty or life imprisonment.
The verdict on sentencing will be delivered by Special Judge S.R. Salunkhe. The crime, which occurred on May 1, sent shockwaves across Maharashtra and sparked widespread public outrage.
The case has been concluded within two months following directions from the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, making it one of the fastest-tracked criminal trials in the state. Final arguments were completed on June 20, and the court convicted Kamble on June 25.
Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar argued that the crime falls under the “rarest of rare” category and urged the court to award capital punishment. During his submissions, he cited 12 Supreme Court judgments in support of the demand for the death sentence.
Representing the victim’s family, advocates Vipul Dushing and Mayur Dodke presented their arguments before the court, while advocate Himatrao Suryawanshi appeared for the defence.
Pune Rural Police, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sandeepsing Gill and Investigating Officer Police Inspector Vijaymala Pawar, completed the investigation on priority and filed the chargesheet within just 15 days of the incident. The prosecution also completed the examination of 55 witnesses within 16 days, contributing to the swift progress of the trial.
With the accused already found guilty, all eyes are now on the Special Court’s decision on whether the convict will receive the death penalty or life imprisonment in one of Maharashtra’s most disturbing child rape and murder cases.
