The issue of withdrawal of 40 percent concession in property tax has been in news again, ever since newly elected Kasba peth constituency MLA Ravindra Dhangekar and senior Congress leader Sanjay Balgude recently wrote a letter to the Pune district Guardian minister Chandrakant Patil about reinstating the discount in property tax.

Dhangekar recently met Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Ravindra Binawade and demanded immediate attention to the problem, while Balgude wrote a letter to Patil asking him to fulfill the assurances by reinstating the 40 percent discount.

The issue of reinstating the 40 percent discount and waiving off the penalty on the property tax has also been taken up by the Pune based Vadgaon Sheri and Hadapsar constituency MLA Sunil Tingre and Chetan Tupe in Vidhan Sabha today.

Reinstate 40 percent discount :

  • Pune Municipal Corporation property holders gave 40 percent discount
  • In 2018, the state government had withdrawn the discount
  • The state government had asked to recover the amount with back dated effect, recovering arrears, this resulted in inflated property tax bills to property holders
  • Pune District Guardian minister Chandrakant Patil had intervened and gave stay on the issue, but there has been no written document issued yet to PMC
  • Nagrik Hakka Sanstha’s president Sudhir Kulkarni had filed an RTI which revealed this information
  • PMC will start issuing bills for the new financial year from April 1

Bharatiya Janata Party Parvati constituency MLA Madhuri Misal, Shivaji Nagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, former Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, Chandrakant Patil, Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir met deputy chief minister for Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and requested him to take up the issue and provide relief to the property tax holders. The MLA’s urged Fadnavis to reinstate the discount. Fadnavis assured them that soon a meeting will be held and a decision will be announced shortly. Â
