Pune News: Elderly Citizens Urged To Seek Help Through Toll-Free ‘Elder Line 14567’ Helpline
Pune, February 7: Senior citizens across India facing various challenges are encouraged to seek assistance through the national toll-free helpline ‘Elder Line – 14567’, established by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
This helpline, aimed at providing compassionate support to senior citizens for a happy and healthy life, is operated in Maharashtra through a collaboration between the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance (Govt. of Maharashtra), Commissionerate of Social Welfare (Govt. of Maharashtra), and Janseva Foundation, Pune.
The helpline functions with the support of call centers, field teams, government agencies, law enforcement, senior citizen organizations, NGOs, legal advisors, counselors, and volunteers. To date, over four lakh calls have been received from senior citizens across the state, providing both direct and indirect assistance. Additionally, more than 30,000 cases have been successfully handled at the local level.
365-Day Support (Except for Three National Holidays)
Elder Line operates from 8 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week, except on January 26, August 15, and October 2. The helpline provides information on health awareness, old age homes, daycare centers, nutrition, culture, arts, senior-friendly products, and entertainment.
It also offers legal and financial guidance on issues such as property disputes, pensions, government schemes, and conflict resolution related to family, neighbors, and financial matters. Emotional support is also provided for issues like stress, anxiety, relationship management, and end-of-life planning, including will-making and pre-death documentation.
Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare, Vishal Londhe, urged senior citizens to take advantage of this service to improve their quality of life.
