Pune News: Firecracker Explosion Injures Five Children In Narhe; Residents Urged To Exercise Caution
Narhe, Pune, October 29, 2024 – Five children sustained minor burn injuries in a firecracker explosion at Gaurang Residency Society in Manajinagar, Narhe, near Navale Hospital on Monday evening, officials reported. The incident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m., took place when the children reportedly set off firecrackers on a drainage line. The explosion was triggered by accumulated gas in the drainage chambers, said Sinhagad Police Station in-charge Raghvendra Singh Kshirsagar.
Kshirsagar confirmed that although most of the children received minor burns, two required brief hospital treatment and were later discharged in stable condition. “We have yet to receive the medico-legal case (MLC) report,” Kshirsagar stated, adding that his team had visited the scene and spoken with witnesses to understand the sequence of events. “The injured children are stable, and we are closely coordinating with their families to provide necessary assistance. We strongly advise citizens to supervise children and take extra safety precautions during Diwali celebrations to prevent similar incidents.”
The explosion has left residents of Gaurang Residency Society and surrounding communities shaken. “Diwali festivities were just starting, and while nearby societies are illuminated with lights, our society remains dark, reflecting the shock of the incident,” said a resident. “Thankfully, all the children are safe, and we’re grateful for that.”
CCTV footage of the explosion has circulated online, raising public awareness and prompting officials to emphasize firecracker safety as Diwali celebrations continue.
