Pune News : Five held for fuel theft in Hadapsar

Pune : Pune city police have booked five persons in allegedly a fuel theft case in Hadapsar on Saturday, April 8, said Police.

The theft was discovered based on a tip-off received by Police Officer Manoj Survase, indicating that a tanker filled with ETF Petrol (used for aviation) was passing through a specific area en route from Vashi to Shirdi airport. The tankers were supposed to be sealed by the company to prevent fuel theft during transportation, but it was alleged that some individuals were stealing petrol and diesel in plastic cans from vehicles belonging to Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil, and Reliance.

Under the leadership of senior police inspector of Hadapsar police station Arvind Gokule a raid was conducted at Laxmi Colony, near Gajanan Mitra Mandal in Hadapsar at around 6:30 am and found that fuel from two Hindustan Petroleum tankers had been allegedly stolen and filled in plastic containers. A total of 14 containers were recovered. Legal action has been taken against the accused individuals, including drivers and labourers, under various sections of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and the Indian Penal Code.

Gokule said, “Acting on the tip, we have raided the premises and found that five persons were involved in fuel theft from a total eight petrol tankers. We have seized material worth of Rs 2.28 cr and further investigation is going on.’’

The seized materials from the crime scene are estimated to be worth Rs. 2,28,05,995. Further investigations and actions are expected to take place as the case unfolds.
