Pune News: Hearing On Complaint Against Rahul Gandhi To Be Heard In Special MP-MLA CourtÂ
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will face defamation charges in a special MP-MLA court over his controversial statement about Swatantra Veer Savarkar. The case, filed by Satyaki Savarkar, grandson of the freedom fighter, alleges criminal defamation.
The statement in question was made during Gandhi’s speech to NRIs in London, sparking widespread outrage. The First Class Magistrate has ordered Gandhi to appear in court and present his statement. However, it remains to be seen whether Gandhi will comply with the order.
The special MP-MLA court was established by the High Court to expedite cases involving MPs and MLAs. This move aims to fast-track criminal complaints against sitting and former district representatives. Chief District Judge Mahendra Mahajan has ordered the transfer of Gandhi’s case to this special court.
According to Advocate Sangram Kolhatkar, representing Satyaki Savarkar, the special court will send summons to Rahul Gandhi before the next hearing, scheduled for October 4. “The next hearing of the criminal suit filed against the defamation of freedom fighter Savarkar by MP Rahul Gandhi will be held in this special court,” Kolhatkar stated.
The establishment of the MP-MLA court is part of a broader effort to streamline the judicial process for cases involving public figures. The High Court notification mandates that all claims filed under the Criminal Code, Indian Civil Protection Code, and specific writ petitions against MPs and MLAs be tried in this special court.
As the case unfolds, attention will focus on Gandhi’s response to the defamation charges. The outcome will have significant implications for the Congress leader and the broader political landscape.
