Speaking to Pune Pulse, Fouziya Shaikh, a resident of Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa said, ” We have been receiving contaminated water for 2 years. Despite several complaints to the authorities of Pune Municipal Corporation, the issue is not yet resolved. Every time, they just come, clean the pipeline and go. However, after two or three days, we again start getting contaminated water. As a result, we get stomach ache, typhoid and other diseases quite frequently.”

Khwaja Shaikh, Resident of Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa said, ” We receive contaminated water every day through the taps. It stinks and also is a major cause of a lot of diseases. The PMC authorities simply come, give false promises & go.”

Asif Ansari, a resident of Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa said, “The issue has been prevalent for 3 to 4 years. PMC has not taken any concrete action since. People suffer from typhoid and many other illnesses due to this. We have not had access to clean water for years.”

Hasan Shaikh, Resident of Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa said, “Only dirty water comes from our taps every day. A lot of years are gone and still no action is taken to resolve this. We have to buy bottles of drinking water every day.”

Ansar Ansari, Resident of Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa said, “There is a leakage in the water pipeline, so water gets contaminated. As a result, we get dirty water every day.”

Asif Ansari, President, Social Democratic Party of India, Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa said, ” The water gets contaminated every day due to leakage in the water pipeline. Hence, people receive contaminated water. Despite several complaints, the PMC hasn’t taken out any concrete solution for this.”

Rajendra Jadhav, Junior Engineer, PMC Drainage Department has assured the people of Ashraf Nagar that the PMC is working out a concrete solution to fix this issue and it will be resolved soon.

Dilawar Sayyed, President, Social Democratic Party of India, said “Dirty, unhealthy drainage water is getting mixed with drinking water supply from the PMC taps for many years now in Ashraf Nagar area. Despite several complaints to the ward office, people have been ignored and citizens’ life has been put at high risk. The drainage lines are leaking and are running parallel in a row with the water supply pipes which in turn mix with the drinking water. The ward office has acknowledged our several requests by carrying out temporary works, but there has been no permanent solution to the problem. PMC will be responsible for any citizen who falls prey to any waterborne disease. Many residents are falling ill by severe stomach infections. “
