Pune: The lottery scheme which was implemented this year by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to encourage residents to pay property tax has turned out to be a boon for the civic body as it netted a revenue of Rs 1300 crores – a 10 per cent increase than it had collected as compared to last year, before its deadline ended on August 2 midnight.

Ajit Deshmukh, Head of the PMC Tax Department said, ” The PMC collected Rs 1,145 crore in property tax up until August 2, 2022. This year, by August 2, the PMC has collected around Rs 1,300 crore in property taxes. The property owners were encouraged and urged to pay the taxes on time and participate in the lottery process. The PMC will now concentrate on recouping payments by filing lawsuits against defaulters. If necessary, the homes of people with large amounts of unpaid debt will be sealed.”

As per information, the lottery scheme says that property owners who pay the entire property tax on time are eligible for the lottery of 45 prizes which will include five petrol automobiles, fifteen electric bikes, fifteen mobile phones and ten laptops to lucky winners.

Everyone who has timely paid their property taxes is entitled to participate in the lottery. The decision to conclude the lottery process and announce the winners will soon be done.
