The Mahatma Phule Mandai area, a historic and bustling hub in Pune, is all set to undergo a significant transformation. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to revamp the area, tackling long-standing issues of encroachment, unsanitary conditions, and traffic congestion.

This move comes on the heels of the recent launch of the Shivajinagar Court to Swargate metro line, which has seen a substantial increase in passenger traffic between Swargate to Mahatma Phule Mandai and Chinchwad to Mandai stations. The area’s modern metro station contrasts sharply with the chaotic, unsanitary conditions outside.

PMC Commissioner Rajendra Bhosle told the media that Rs. 1.25 crores has been allocated for maintenance and repairs. “The Mandai area is the glory of our city, and with the new metro station, it’s essential we upgrade the infrastructure,” Bhosle said.

Key components of the revamp plan include removing encroachments, preserving historic architecture, improving sanitation, and easing traffic congestion. Citizens have long complained about the area’s condition, and locals welcome the changes.

“As soon as you step out of the metro station, you’re confronted with encroachments and chaos,” said a local resident. “We’re thrilled that the administration is finally addressing these issues.”

The revamp aims to restore the Mandai area’s historic charm while providing a seamless experience for commuters and locals. With this project, the PMC seeks to transform Mahatma Phule Mandai into a vibrant, visitor-friendly hub showcasing Pune’s rich history and culture.
