Pune, June 26, 2025 — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators Mahesh Landge and Shankar Jagtap have voiced strong support for the inclusion of the Hinjawadi IT Park within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), responding to growing demands from citizens and IT professionals over worsening civic infrastructure in the region.

The demand gained momentum after Sachin Londhe, a member of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Residents Development and Welfare Association, initiated an online petition urging the merger. The petition highlights the struggles of thousands of IT employees, residents, daily commuters, and students due to traffic congestion, poor roads, flooding, and inadequate street lighting.

“Hinjawadi is right next to Pimpri-Chinchwad, and for sustainable urban development, we must integrate key surrounding areas like Hinjawadi, Chakan, and Talegaon into city planning,” said Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). He emphasized PCMC’s ongoing efforts in mobility, air quality, and waste management, making it a suitable authority to handle Hinjawadi’s issues.

Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap echoed similar concerns, stating, “Residents and IT workers are grappling with terrible road conditions and daily traffic bottlenecks. Hinjawadi’s inclusion in PCMC would lead to road repairs, better traffic management, and civic upgrades.” He added that he fully supports the merger and urged citizens to back the campaign.

Londhe’s petition warns of the long-term consequences of ignoring the area’s issues — including a drop in productivity, a possible exodus of skilled professionals, and reduced investor interest. “Despite being a major IT hub of Maharashtra, Hinjawadi is suffering from a shocking level of neglect,” the petition states.

Several localities such as Maan, Wakad, Ravet, Punawale, Marunji, Mahalunge, Sus, Baner, Bavdhan, and even parts of Pune city are said to be affected due to the region’s poor connectivity and civic mismanagement.

Recently, Baramati MP Supriya Sule also wrote to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging the creation of an independent governing body for Hinjawadi to address its growing administrative needs.
