Pune News : MP Supriya Sule demands structural audit of Vanaz to Garware metro route

Pune : National Congress Party (NCP) leader, Baramati constituency Member of Parliament Supriya Sule on Saturday demanded ‘Structural Audit’ of Vanaz to Garware Metro stretch as many experts raised questions on the quality of the Metro work in Pune.

In her tweet MP Sule, mentioned that,“ Expert in the engineering field say that there are some serious technical errors in the construction of the Vanaz to Garware College route of the Pune Metro which was inaugurated by our Prime Minister Narendraji Modi. Millions of passengers will travel daily on this route in the future.’’

Sule further tweeted that, “ Considering their safety, it is necessary do ‘structural audit’ of these entire constructions and remove these errors.’’

Sule further requested the Managing Director of Mahametro, Dr Brijesh Dixit, to please take appropriate action in this regard.

According to Sule, a group of technical expert including Narayan Kochak, Shirish Khasbardar, Dr Ketan Gokhale, Dr Vivek Gadgil had written in detailed letter to Dr Brijesh Dixit dated on February 3 in which they had raised questions on ‘Structural Safety of the Stations’.

In their letter, a group of Engineering Professionals residing in the Pune city told that, they have also been travelling on the said stretch and they have observed that certain major and serious lapses in the quality of structural steel framework as well as flawed designs for the stations. Apprehending  that the said lapses may lead to catastrophic consequences endangering public life.

Group of Engineering feels that the lapses observed are serious in nature and pose a threat to ‘Public Safety’ both for the commuters travelling on the road below the stations and to the commuters travelling by Metro itself. In the view of impending public hazard it is crucial and important to suspend immediately the present operations of the Metro rail on the routes and carry out detailed ‘Structural Audit’ of the steel work for a aforesaid stations immediately.

Speaking on this Metro Officials told that we have already conveyed these errors to our contractors. When contractors failed to rectify it on time we charged them a heavy penalty and cancelled their contract.Group of Engineers raised workmanship’s error at some stations but the structure of the station is safe and secure.

Officials further added that repairing works are already taken speed and COEP had given work to authorise these repairing related work. A team of COEP have recently started their work.
