Pune News : MSEDCL disconnects electricity supply of 14k defaulters with over Rs 204 crores arrears

Pune: Taking strict action against defaulters, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has disconnected the power supply of 14,155 consumers in Pune circle during the last fortnight.  

As per information, a total of 7,08, 892 domestic, commercial and industrial electricity consumers in Pune circle owe an amount of Rs 204 crores 67 lakhs to MSEDCL. Due to non-payment of overdue electricity bills despite repeated appeals, MSEDCL has started the proceedings to disconnect the power supply. 

In order to facilitate the payment of current and overdue electricity bills to electricity consumers, all the authorized electricity bill payment centers of Mahavitaran in Pune circle will be open during office hours on Saturday (July 29) and Sunday (July 30) public holidays. Along with this, an ‘online’ facility is available for low-pressure electricity consumers to pay their bills from the convenience of their home through the website http://www.mahadiscom.in and mobile app.

At present in Pune city, a total of 3,14,920 electricity consumers owe an amount of Rs 76 crore 11 lakh to MSEDCL. In this, 2,68,122 domestic customers owe an amount of Rs 53 crore 91 lakhs. Similarly, 43, 638 commercial customers owe Rs 20 crores 9 lakhs to the MSEDCL and 3,160 industrial 160 customers owe Rs 2 crores 12 lakhs to the MSEDCL. The electricity supply of 8 thousand 914 arrears was cut off.

In the city of Pimpri Chinchwad, a total of 1, 51, 409 electricity consumers owe Rs 54 crore 29 lakh to MSEDCL. Out of this, 1, 25, 869 domestic customers owe Rs 31 crore 63 lakh. Similarly, 21,035 commercial customers owe Rs 13 crore 4 lakhs and 4, 505 industrial customers owe Rs 9 crore 61 lakh to MSEDCL. The electricity supply of 952 customers were cut off.

Also, a total of 2,42,563 electricity consumers in Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, Khed, Mulshi, Velhe, and Haveli talukas in the rural areas owe Rs 74 crore 27 lakhs to MSEDCL. In this, 2,16, 261 domestic customers owe Rs 52 crore 57 lakh, 22, 596 commercial customers owe Rs 14 crore 35 lakh, and 3,706 industrial customers owe Rs 7 crore 35 lakh to MSEDCL. The electricity connections of 4,289 customers were disconnected. Mahavitaran has appealed to the electricity consumers to pay the overdue electricity bills promptly and to avoid disconnecting of the electricity supply.
