The Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday declared the name of former corporator Nana Kate for upcoming elections of the Chinchwad Legislative Assembly Elections.

After much speculation on Tuesday, NCP state president Jayant Patil in his tweet said, “On behalf of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Nationalist Congress Party’s Nana Kate will contest for Chinchwad seat. All leaders, workers and members  of the MVA will take efforts and we will win this seat.’’

Earlier, it was said that Rahul Kalate will get a ticket from NCP but in the last moment the party has shown its faith in the ‘original’ party worker, said sources in the know-how. Tuesday is the last day for filing nominations for the by-polls.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given ticket to Ashwini Jagtap, wife of late BJP leader and MLA Laxman Jagtap from Chinchwad seat. The Chinchwad Assembly seat fell vacant after the death of BJP leader and former mayor Laxman Jagtap.

By-elections of Chinchwad and Kasaba assembly constituencies in Pune district, will be held on February 26.  The counting of votes to all by polls will be held on March 2.
