Pune: In a move to remove all the stranded and unattended vehicles which are encroaching on the roads & footpaths in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started to levy heavy fines on people who simply park their vehicles on the roads and footpaths & leave them stranded for months.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of encroachment/illegal construction removal department PMC said, “The move aims to end the habit of people who just park their vehicles anywhere for a long time and not move them. A lot of waste gets accumulated nearby the vehicle if it is not moved from a place for a long time, giving rise to illness & diseases.”

As per information from Jagtap, the PMC has given a deadline to the concerned vehicle owner to move the vehicle within a period of 1 month. A notice will be placed on the said vehicles through the PMC and a period of 7 days will be given for this. If the concerned vehicle owners do not remove the vehicle within 7 days, the PMC will confiscate the vehicle. As of now, 22 stranded vehicles have been seized by the PMC in the city and notices have been issued to 18 vehicles.

The fine charges for these stranded/unattended vehicles are:

·         Two Wheelers – – Rs 5000/-

·         Three Wheelers (Rickshaw, Tempo etc) – Rs 10000/-

·         Four Wheeler Vehicles (Cars, Jeeps etc) – Rs 15000/-

·         Light Vehicles (Till 10 Tonnes) – Rs 20000/-

·         Heavy Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) – Rs 25000/-
