Pune News : PMC & PCMC Among 12 Municipal Bodies to Appoint ‘Mosquito Breeding Site Checkers’

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations (PCMC)  have appointed integrated officials known as  ‘Breeding Site Checkers’ who will inspect various locations amidst the rise in the number of cases of vector borne diseases.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Bhagwan Pawar, Health Officer, PMC said, “The PMC has started doing this exercise of inspecting vector-borne diseases sites since the month of June. We have appointed officials as Breeding Site Checkers as directed & have assigned different areas to them for checking various places for the causes of vector-borne diseases.”

As per information, 25 officials have been appointed by each municipal body to inspect & eliminate the causes of vector-borne diseases from various locations.

Dr Abhay Dadewar, Additional Medical Officer, PCMC Health Department, said “Breeding Site Checkers have been appointed. They will firstly check whether the vector-borne diseases can be eliminated easily from a site by spraying acid, cleaning the place and so on. If it is difficult to eliminate the disease causing factor from a place, some biological methods like using guppy fishes etc will be implemented.”

As per information, the state health department has directed 12 municipal corporations of Maharashtra to appoint ‘Breeding Site Checkers’ amid rise in vector borne diseases. These include Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nashik, Solapur, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Kalyan, Dhule, Amravati, Chandrapur and Nagpur.
