Pune : In a bid to empower women and celebrate International Women’s Day, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced the restoration of free bus travel for women on their ‘Tejaswini’ buses from March 8, 2023.

The decision was made in the board of directors meeting on March 6, 2019, where it was approved to allow free travel for women on the 8th of every month. The transport corporation had initially started 28 Tejaswini buses exclusively for women on 23 routes, but due to the low response from women passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the buses were closed.

Now, with the reduced spread of COVID-19 and full capacity bus operations being started on all routes, the Mahila Tejaswini buses have been restarted at full capacity. PMPML is urging women to take advantage of the free travel service on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The Chief Transport Manager (Operation) of Pune Mahanagar Transport Corporation Ltd., stated, “We are pleased to announce the restoration of the free travel service for women on our Tejaswini buses. It is our small effort to encourage women to use public transport and feel empowered. We hope that more women will take advantage of this service and enjoy a hassle-free journey.”
