Pune: Kirkatwadi residents have alleged that the crematorium has become a hotspot for liquor consumption and other activities. This has caused a lot of inconvenience to people at the crematorium.

Narendra Hagawane, tweeted, ”Kirkatwadi crematorium has become a den for people consuming alcohol. We sent a letter to PMC on September 14, 2022, regarding the appointment of security guards on the premises, but no further action was taken.”

While talking to Pune Pulse, Narendra Hagawane, Kirkatwadi Development Forum, added, ”Illegal activities take place in Kirkatwadi crematorium. Many people are seen consuming alcohol, littering, and gambling in the place, as it is open to everyone since Kirkatwadi comes under PMC jurisdiction. Earlier, during Gram Panchayat, we used to lock this place when not in use to avoid such incidents. The restrooms in the vicinity do not receive water. If water is needed to carry out any ritual in the crematorium, a person has to bring water from outside.”

Ananta Gabdule, a Kirkatwadi resident, added, ”From many days, people are seen consuming alcohol. These intoxicated people have damaged the water taps, tube lights, and buckets on the crematorium premises. No cleanliness has been maintained at the place. We have sent a letter to PMC in this case, but no response has been given.”

Rohidas Dattatray, Ex- Sarpanch, added, ”No cleanliness has been maintained in the premises. In the evening, people consume alcohol and then make the crematorium dirty by leaving bottles and packets around. Sometimes couples are also seen on the premises.”
