A case has been filed against the office bearers of Nyati Grandeur Society, Undri, Pune for allegedly taking funds that are illegal under the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (MCS) Act 1960 and Society Bylaws, without any General Body (GB) resolution or Managing Committee (MC) meeting approval. The case was filed by Management Committee member Shekhar Dhotre on August 30, 2022.

Shekhar Dhotre has been supported by a veteran and Vishesh Seva medal recipient Colonel Vikram Taneja, in the case. Colonel Taneja has been persistent in attending case dates, writing responses to the case, and even met IAS officer Anil Kawade, who is the head of the Maharashtra Co-operative Department.

According to Shekhar Dhotre, the society’s treasurer Sanket Kulkarni, and Secretary Vishwajit Menbudale have signed the cheques. However, Chairman Rajesh Warlekar’s signatures are not on the cheques. The Chairman claims that he was not on board with the others while taking money without GB or MC approval.

Kiran Mohan, another MC member, presented a false document in the subsequent hearing in the court on behalf of the office bearers where minutes of meetings (MOM) were pasted on one page, and the signatures of MC members were pasted on the other page, thus tricking all MC members, providing a false forged document in the court, which is a crime punishable by law.

The case is seeking the disposal of the entire committee for opposing a whistle blower and supporting illegal activities in the society office. A recorded video of some other members abusing Shekhar Dhotre has been presented as evidence to Dy registrar, IAS Anil Kawade, who has taken cognizance of the same.

A notice has been served by Deputy registrar D S Housare of zone 4 to the office bearers. Senior advocate, Santosh Deshpande, and his assistant Vikram Shinde, are pursuing the case on behalf of Shekhar Dhotre.

Shekhar Dhotre is the “Aam Aadmi Party IT head “ for Pune city who is fighting for many other social causes like clean and free PMC piped water for societies ,tanker free societies , sports ground for children, free wifi for residents. etc.

The case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the management of co-operative societies. It is essential to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the MCS Act 1960 and Society Bylaws to ensure the smooth functioning of the society and to protect the interests of its members. The legal proceedings will serve as a reminder to all office bearers of co-operative societies to act responsibly and with integrity while handling the society’s funds.
