Pune: On July 22 to educate electricity consumers about consumer rights etc an extensive awareness talk was held online. Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vivek Welankar, Speaker and President of Sajag Nagrik Manch Pune said, “It was a very comprehensive online discussion which was met with a lot of response. Several things about electricity rights and more were discussed. Consumers’ queries about bill payments etc were addressed. I felt very satisfied as the speaker of the discussion that I could resolve doubts.”

As per the information, the following are some points to be remembered by electricity consumers:

1. Official recording of complaints is required either through the Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) app, website or toll-free number

2. Ensure the mobile number of the consumer is registered to receive an SMS alert about power failure. Consumers can register here: https://pro.mahadiscom.in/ConsumerInfo/consumer.jsp

3. Consumers to keep a record of power gone time and power restored time and make a monthly report which can be taken to the Chief Engineer. As per section 18.3 of SOP, consumers should be intimated 1 week in advance of scheduled power outages and unplanned outside/faults immediate intimation through SMS/email.

4. Consumers to be aware of the Supply Code – Standard of Procedure (SOP) document on the website https://www.mahadiscom.in/consumer/en/home/ under the knowledge centre & quick access. Everything regarding meter reading, power outage, voltage issues, compensation etc are given in the SOP.

5. In case of meter reading issues, the consumer can check the meter reading and create data to produce to the MSEB office. In case of a faulty meter, the SOP mentions paying a charge and getting it tested in their lab and a report to be given to you within 4 days.

6. Electricity Act 2003 section 56 states 15 days’ notice before which meter cannot be disconnected.

7. CGRF (consumer grievance redressal forum) is a legal platform for Mahavitaran to file cases https://www.mahadiscom.in/en/consumer-grievances-redressal-forum/

8. Compensation for failure to act as per the stipulated time given in SOP is to be done automatically by MSEB, but it doesn’t get done, so consumers have to keep a record of the incidents and apply for compensation through Form A which is available on the website. Raising a pink slip is important feedback.
