Pune: A 60-year-old man in Dhanori lost around Rs 3 lakh to cyber criminals who asked for money to get him a job at the airport in Pune.

As per the information, the complainant, who had been employed at a private company for some time, had made an online application for a new job. In April, he received a call from an individual claiming to offer him a job as a security guard at the airport.

The complainant consented to the job and a fake interview was conducted over the phone. Initially, the complainant was asked to pay a sum of Rs 1,000 to complete the job selection process, however, he was later asked to pay an additional amount for a uniform, identification card, and documentation.

The complainant continued to send money to certain bank accounts online, however, he did not get any job.

The fraudster then informed the complainant that the security guard job had already been filled and they were willing to offer him a job in the administration department instead. As part of this new agreement, the fraudster asked the complainant to send additional money, claiming that they had provided him with an improved job profile.

From April to June 2023, the complainant transferred Rs 2,98,700 to this fraudster, but no such job was offered to him at the Pune airport. After realizing that he had been cheated, the man reported the matter to the Vishrantwadi police.

Vishrantwadi police are investigating the whereabouts of the online scammer.

Pune Pulse tried to contact the Vishrantwadi Police officials but couldn’t connect while reporting.
