Pune News : Undri residents end one day strike after PMC assures to restore water supply

Residents of Undri on March 31 held a protest at Undri chowk against Pune Municipal Corporation for not providing adequate water. Undri village gets water supply from the Kamthe Nagar water tank in Hadapsar but for the last two years, there has been drastic poor supply from this tank to Undri village areas of Undri village, Takle vasti, Punekar vasti and Kanade nagar. 

PMC used to supply 20 water tankers till 2020 but presently only 9 tankers are being provided. If 20 tankers are provided these areas get water supply three days but now with 9 tankers supply is getting delayed till 5 days. 

Swati Takle, former member, Pune Zilla Parishad said, “We will not stop our strike here for just one day. PMC should reinstate the supply of water like it was before. We should get an adequate water supply.  If today our demands are not met we will hold a Handa morcha at the PMC headquarters. Also, the PMC overhead tank repair and maintenance must be carried out on a regular basis. Cleanliness around tanks is a must.”  

Subhash Ghule, former members, Gram Panchayat, Undri village stated PMC is neglecting Undri village. It is the PMC’s responsibility to provide adequate. People are not receiving adequate water supply. 

The protest also saw presence of Sachin Ghule, Machhindra Dagade, Sachin Punekar and other residents of Undri. Rajendra Bhintade informed that the officials from Swargate water division deputy engineer Prashant Kumbharkar and section engineer Shantilal Kolekar have assured to restore the supply.
