In a significant crackdown, Wakad police have disrupted a child trafficking racket, liberating a 7-year-old boy from the clutches of the perpetrators. The operation, led by Senior Inspector , resulted in the arrest of six women, one of whom was the child’s mother. Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishal Hire disclosed, “The mother had agreed to sell her son for five lakh rupees.”

The investigation by Sardi Police unveiled shocking details about the syndicate’s activities. Sub Inspector from Wakad police revealed, “The gang, consisting of women, had sold five babies in the past year.” These arrests shed light on the dark operations of child trafficking, with the arrested women hailing from areas like Dhanakwadi, Yerwada, and Hadapsar in Pune City.

Constable Jawan, acting on a tip-off, alerted the authorities about the gang’s involvement in child trafficking. After a meticulous operation, the police set a trap in Wakad, leading to the arrest of the six women and the rescue of the baby boy on Friday evening.

During interrogation, it was discovered that one of the arrested women was the mother of the rescued child. Sub Inspector stated, “The woman, a daily wage worker, confessed that she resorted to selling her son due to financial distress.” Investigations further revealed that the syndicate had sold five babies in the past year, targeting vulnerable parents from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The modus operandi of the syndicate involved offering money to needy parents in exchange for their newborns. The babies were then sold to different individuals for amounts ranging from three to five lakh rupees, with a premium charged for baby boys.

All the arrested women are currently in police custody until April 16, as investigations continue. Sub Inspector emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that efforts are ongoing to unearth the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and bring justice to the victims.
