Pune News: Wanowrie Woman Duped Of ₹ 11.79 Lakh Through Fake High Court Call; Case Filed at Wanawadi Police Station
Pune: A case of online fraud involving a sum of ₹11.79 lakh has been registered at the Wanawadi Police Station, Pune. The victim, 53-year-old Banu Abbasi Arthunawala, a housewife residing in Wanowrie, Pune, was targeted in an elaborate scam between September 4 and 5, 2024.
According to the complaint, the victim received a call from an unknown number (8947143100) claiming to be from the Mumbai High Court. The caller falsely informed her that Axis Bank had filed a complaint against her for an outstanding amount of ₹2,70,000. They further escalated the situation by forwarding her call to another individual posing as a police officer, who claimed that an arrest warrant had been issued against her.
To avoid arrest, the fraudster convinced the victim to deposit ₹11,79,796 into a Bandhan Bank account (Account Number: 20100031377880), citing it as a temporary payment for investigation purposes. The money was transferred, and the victim soon realized she had been duped, leading to the filing of a police complaint on September 13, 2024.
The case has been registered under sections 319(2), 318(4), and 204 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. The police are currently investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to trace the accused.
The investigation is being led by officials from the Wanawadi Police Station, Pune.
