Pune News : Water pipeline damage in Phursungi leads to chaos

Pune: The water pipeline of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) was damaged leading to water wastage and traffic problems near Fursungi Police Station on Monday. The MJP officials have repaired the pipeline.

Mahadev Devkar, an official of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) Pune said, “Yesterday (27th November), water pipeline testing was going on. At that time, the water pipeline in Fursungi got damaged & water started coming out in huge quantities. However, we have immediately repaired the pipeline. So now, there is no issue.”

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Deepali Sardeshmukh, President, Maharashtra Alert Citizens Forum & a resident of Fursungi said, “The water pipeline is of MJP. Although the MJP officials have repaired the damaged pipeline now, a huge amount of water was wasted. Water wasting is also a crime. We are tax-paying citizens, and still, we are not getting water supply. At least the necessities must be provided & maintained properly.”

Sardeshmukh also added that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should stop collecting property tax from the citizens as they fail to provide basic facilities. “As the Pune Municipal Corporation collects property tax amount from every registered property taxpayer, basic facilities like good roads, ample water supply and other facilities must be provided by the PMC. Why is every citizen not getting regular water supply from Pune Municipal Corporation?” she asked. 

Sardeshmukh further stated that it is important for the state government as well as the PMC to conduct a survey if every registered property holder in all the villages included in the PMC’s jurisdiction is getting water supply and other basic facilities. Additionally, they should complete all the planning related to providing all the necessary basic facilities, otherwise, they will face the wrath of the citizens.
