Pune: Ongoing Congestion at University Chowk Causes Frustration for Local Residents.
The ongoing construction of the Shivaji Nagar-Hinjewadi metro line has picked up pace in recent months, but frequent commuters on this route are experiencing major disruptions daily. Several vehicles were stuck in a traffic jam that extended to Shivajinagar after a safety net collapsed on the arch built for metro work at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk on Tuesday (September 24).
However, on Wednesday, the lane leading to Shivajinagar was redirected from the university entrance to the road coming from Shivajinagar, leading to significant traffic congestion in the area.
Traffic from Aundh is now being diverted from the university entrance to the lane coming from Shivajinagar, resulting in vehicles from both directions using the same lane. The situation is made worse by a high volume of heavy vehicles, which adds to the growing congestion.
The Hinjewadi IT Park, an important employment center, is along this route, as are several IT companies in Balewadi. Employees in these areas are frustrated by the ongoing traffic jams at University Chowk.
