The strong performance of the taxation and tax collection department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) continues. As per information, it has crossed the milestone of seven hundred crore rupees in ten months.

In order to collect maximum tax in the remaining two months, the PCMC has now taken a major decision to seize the properties of defaulters. Therefore, it has appealed to the defaulters to cooperate with the PCMC by paying taxes immediately so that their property is not confiscated.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner said, “Property tax registration campaign is currently underway in the city. Geo-sequencing has been done on more than four and a half lakh properties. Necessary information of nearly 1 lakh properties has been collected. The PCMC gives many concessions to societies, women, disabled, and ex-servicemen who are implementing various environmental-friendly activities. To provide these concessions, a campaign is being implemented called ‘Palika Aplya Dari’. Therefore, the property owners should provide their details to the visiting team of the PCMC so that they will get these benefits sitting at home without any application and without bothering the office. Then all housing societies and property owners should cooperate to make this campaign successful. Also, defaulters should pay their tax arrears and avoid harsh actions like confiscation.”

Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, additional commissioner, PCMC said, “I review the tax collection department by holding regular monthly meetings. The tender process for the integration of property tax and water strip collection is being launched in the coming weeks. Therefore, it will be possible to pay property tax and water bills at the same time. This will benefit the citizens. Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel, seizure vehicles and plumbers required by the department have been made available immediately. A proposal to appoint a panel of government valuers is under consideration to speed up the auction process of seized properties.”

Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC Taxation and Tax Collection Department said, “Under the leadership of the Commissioner and under the direction of the Additional Commissioner, the property tax recovery drive is being intensified. At present, the tax collection head office is reviewing daily through Google Meet. The property tax registration campaign is also going on at a fast pace. In the coming year, information is being collected in such a way that all the property owners will get all the discounts and facilities sitting at home. Citizens should respond spontaneously to this campaign. This year also, we will try to set a new record by collecting more than last year.”

There are 6,15,000 properties in Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Out of this, as many as 4, 21,000 property owners have contributed to the city development by paying 716 crore 40 lakh rupees as property tax. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has thanked these responsible and aware taxpayers for that.

Public awareness, repeated appeals, pre-seizure notices, and sending SMS to mobile phones for payment of tax to defaulters have been done for property tax collection. However, even after that, the tax collection department has started taking strict action against property owners who do not pay taxes.

As many as 283 properties in 17 zones have been seized for non-payment of property taxes despite repeated appeals. Of these, 98 residential properties have been deeded. Even after this, if the due tax is not paid, a warning has been given on behalf of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department to auction the property of the concerned property owners.

The property tax has been collected by the following means:
